Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be transformed from one form to another – Albert Einstein

When considering your solar+storage options, you’ll require a few essential product specifications. Consider how long the solar battery will last or how much power it can provide. The evaluation process should include the battery’s manufacturer, the capacity and power rating, round-trip efficiency, depth of discharge (DoD), and warranty.

While capacity tells you how big your battery is, it doesn’t tell you how much electricity a battery can provide at any given moment. The battery’s power rating is the amount of electrical energy that a battery can deliver at one time, measured in kilowatts (kW). Capacity is the total amount of energy that a solar battery can store, measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh). Usually, solar batteries for home use are designed so you can have multiple batteries to fulfill the solar+storage capacity.

A battery with a high capacity and a low power rating would deliver a small amount of electricity yet for a long time. A battery with low capacity and a high power-rating could run your entire home, but only for a few hours.  Most solar batteries need to always retain a charge because of the chemical composition. Using a hundred percent of a battery’s charge shortens significantly its useful life.

The round-trip efficiency represents the amount of energy used as a percentage of the amount of energy that it took to store it. For example, if you feed five kWh of electricity into your battery and can only get four kWh of useful electricity back, the battery has 80 percent round-trip efficiency (4 kWh / 5 kWh = 80%). Generally speaking, a higher round-trip efficiency means you will get more economic value out of your battery.

Warranties vary by company and product; you should evaluate the company manufacturing and their length of time in business and the total volume of product in the market. USD is now working with several battery manufacturers to bring you the specific battery elements you require. Also, please let us know if you are looking for modules to go along with your battery needs.   “Do Good Things”
