Logistics costs were extremely high, but where are they now?

Let your example be the way to change others’ lives. Reform yourself and you will reform thousands.

-Yogananda

We were looking at shipping a year ago and feeling uncomfortable with the charges. However, in Southeast Asia to East Coast North America lane, all-inclusive premium rates stayed stable at $20,000-$22,500/FEU (forty-foot equivalent unit) range. “Lower rates are logical considering holidays and congested ports had changed, but we did not see the rates drop or fluctuate much.”

Why were freight rates so high in 2021?

When updated: June 13, 2021, Freight & Shipping Delays With ongoing pandemic-related delays and closures, non-stop demand for ocean freight from Asia to the US, and a severe lack of capacity, ocean rates were significantly elevated and transit times volatile. Air cargo rates are also up as importers and exporters seek alternatives to sea freight.

Will freight rates and shipping prices go down?

Currently, many importers and exporters wonder when they can expect freight rates and shipping prices to go down. The answer? Not yet. But, despite potential delays and high freight shipping costs, there are a few steps importers can take right now:

Where we are now is entirely different. The logistics expert I go to for my information Ralph Stierli told me the following:

Rates went down when the volume was down. As a result, companies looked for other markets and solutions to fix the situation.

Companies stopped or reduced importing where they could. Many were looking to purchase products from the US. They paid a higher product cost but cheaper than the $20k freight cost when added to module costs.

Presently it’s a great time to ship.

The prediction is that by the end of August, things start to get stressed again as we are approaching the run on Q4 shipments where everything has to leave before the end of the year. Then we head into the Chinese New Year. We expect rates will go up again by early September to about $14-$16k. Then spike by Nov in the $17k range but not exceed that level.

It could dip quickly in Jan for two weeks and then pick up again right before Chinese New Year and stay for a few weeks. Then relax again from April 23 until August 23.

However, if the most recent legislation doesn’t pass by the Senate, things might get wild again as there would be run-on panels.

There is still the investigation, and customs is also giving a few importers a hard time on additional paperwork they require.

The fuel price is dropping, which is affecting fees as well.

Robert is flying to Asia to see the present pricing firsthand to ensure you and your team are updated on module availability and market trends. I will be going to Cambodia and Vietnam from August 14 to the end of the month. First, I wanted to check if you are looking for more modules. I am meeting with several Tier 1 manufacturers to lock down modules for my customers.

If you require any modules, please let us know. Here is some of the stock we have remaining. Also, if there is a specific panel, let us know, and we will do our best to find it for you.

I do have three other options with Rayzon, FutureSolar, and Alpex. All three companies we planned to meet in Asia and work together before COVID. But unfortunately, when COVID happened, we were unable to visit. Yet, I sold modules for them, and we are working on getting them Tier 1 status with Bloomberg. We will be visiting the above companies in Asia from August 14th until the end of the month.
