The personal side of understanding solar and what it can do for you.
“There is no failure except failure to serve one’s purpose.”— Henry Ford

What type of energy does the sun provide? All of the energy from the Sun that reaches the Earth arrives as solar radiation, part of a large collection of energy called the electromagnetic radiation spectrum. Solar radiation includes visible light, ultraviolet light, infrared, radio waves, X-rays, and gamma rays. Radiation is one way to transfer heat. Solar panels harness the solar radiation and convert it into electricity through a process known as the photovoltaic effect.

Given your years of experience in the industry, can you explain why consumers should adopt solar energy for their homes and businesses?
What are the benefits? Adopting solar energy offers numerous benefits. It’s a sustainable and renewable source, reduces electricity bills, lowers carbon footprint, qualifies for incentives, and enhances energy independence. Moreover, it’s a smart investment with long-term savings.

Can it generate enough power for all my appliances? The capacity of a solar energy system depends on factors like panel efficiency, sunlight availability, and energy consumption patterns. A properly sized system can certainly generate enough power to cover most, if not all, of your appliances.

How much would it cost to install solar panels? The cost of solar panel installation varies based on factors like system size, location, and equipment quality. While upfront costs might seem significant, many regions offer incentives, and the long-term savings often outweigh the initial investment. Also, most installers are now offering financial help to increase home installations.

How much maintenance do solar panels require? Solar panels are relatively low-maintenance. Regular cleaning, occasional checks for debris, and inspections for any damage are typically sufficient. Quality panels come with warranties, ensuring durability. Solar panels can still generate energy during rainy days. Regarding the concerns about snow, solar arrays are strategically mounted at an angle to maximize sun exposure. The slick glass surface, coupled with this steep angle, prevents snow from adhering for long. Additionally, the dark silicone cells are designed to absorb sunlight and generate heat, quickly melting any accumulated snow. This efficient design ensures that snow rarely lingers on solar panels for more than a few days, often leaving them completely snow-free while the surrounding area remains covered.

Do I need a lot of space to install them? The space requirement depends on the system size and panel efficiency. Advanced technologies allow for more power generation in smaller spaces, making solar viable even for those with limited roof space.

Can I achieve 100% electricity self-sufficiency? Achieving complete self-sufficiency depends on factors like energy consumption, system size, and available sunlight. With the right setup, it’s possible to generate all or most of your electricity needs using solar energy, those are what we call off grid systems, and for sure a battery system is required.

How does a solar energy system integrate with the existing power grid, and what happens to excess energy generated? Solar systems can be grid-tied or off-grid. In a grid-tied system, excess energy generated is fed back into the grid, earning credits. During low sunlight periods, power is drawn from the grid. This helps balance energy needs efficiently.

Batteries 101

Why should I install a battery? Installing a battery provides several benefits. It allows you to store excess solar energy generated during the day for use during periods of low sunlight or power outages. This enhances energy independence, reduces reliance on the grid, and can potentially save on electricity costs.

How do solar batteries function during power outages, and what role do they play in providing backup power for homes? Solar batteries act as an energy reservoir during power outages. When the grid goes down, the stored energy in the batteries can be used to power essential appliances and maintain electricity supply, offering a reliable backup power source for homes.

Can you explain what NEM 3.0 is and what benefit it has to homeowners? NEM 3.0, or Net Energy Metering 3.0, refers to the latest iteration of a policy that allows homeowners with solar installations to receive credits for excess energy they contribute to the grid. This helps offset their electricity bills, making solar energy more economically attractive for homeowners.

How does Unicorn come into play with the supply of batteries? Unicorn plays a crucial role in the supply of batteries by sourcing high-quality, cost-effective options. We ensure a seamless process, from procurement to delivery, de-risking the entire purchasing process. This is important taking into account how many different companies are offering solar batteries now and helping identify which ones are legit, would work in the US and are the best quality option.

How can homeowners make cost-effective decisions when investing in battery storage? Homeowners can make cost-effective decisions by carefully assessing their energy needs, considering available incentives or rebates, and exploring different financing options.

What kind of maintenance do solar batteries typically require, and how user-friendly are they in terms of day-to-day operations? Solar batteries usually require minimal maintenance. Regular inspections and cleaning of the battery system are recommended. Many modern batteries are designed to be user-friendly, with automated systems and remote monitoring capabilities, making day-to-day operations hassle-free for homeowners.
