How are N-type modules changing the game for residential and commercial installers?

Photovoltaic solar modules continue to grow in wattage, which often means increasing their size, too, but that can be different. After installation, the module must fit all the energy output goals. My view of the next steps in modules is moving to N-type modules and discussing the significance of the compact yet electrically potent N-type TopCon/HJT solar modules.

How are N-type modules changing the game for residential and commercial installers?

Unlike utility and C&I solar industries, which are trending into larger format solar modules, residential installers want smaller and lighter modules but still want higher output wattage. The N-type TopCon/HJT cells can be smaller, higher-power footprint modules. Another big trend is the value-added benefit, becoming an increasingly important differentiator for installers. The manufacturer’s warranties, US-based support, and a bankable partner, Unicorn Solar, have become extremely important. Unicorn Solar’s motto of De-Risking the purchasing process separates it from other equipment suppliers.

What are the technical aspects of n-type Topcon/HJT modules that benefit homeowners, business owners, and installers?

The takeaway is higher efficiency and lower degradation. We see a tremendous opportunity for cell efficiency growth with TOPCon/HJT. We had a fantastic ride with Ploy and Mono Perc, but we are at the top of Perc technology efficiency. The higher efficiency TopCon/HJT cells will allow for more power and better roof or ground mount performance, ultimately translating into a faster return on investment.
How can installers/EPC decide what matters when getting N-type modules?

First is the module availability with brokers and distributors. N-type is the direction of the solar industry; installers need reliable inventory access. N-type Topcon/HJT makes it easier for EPCs and installers to install. Plus, the higher power and efficiency means they don’t have to install as many panels to generate the same power output. Ultimately, savings occur on BOS (balance of system) costs and installation times. It allows residential and commercial installers to choose the “best” part of the land or roof with more sun access to avoid vents, pipes, chimneys, or anything that might partially shade the modules.

What concerns do homeowners and business owners have when deciding what panels to put on their roofs?

Homeowners worry that the solar panels will fail and not perform to their expectations. That’s why Unicorn and the manufacturer’s warranty program helps deliver that peace of mind for homeowners and businesses. Unicorn Solar adds an additional security. We back all purchases with our company. Our motto is De-Risking the purchasing process, so once the contract is signed, installers/EPC (residential and commercial) can get to their daily work.
