Happy Labor Day 2023
Labor Day, a federal holiday in the United States, commemorates the contributions and achievements of workers and the labor movement. It originated during the late 19th century when labor unions advocated for better working conditions, reasonable working hours, and fair wages. The first Labor Day celebration occurred on September 5, 1882, in New York City, organized by the Central Labor Union. The concept gained momentum, and in 1894, President Grover Cleveland officially designated the first Monday of September as Labor Day, a day to recognize American workers’ social and economic achievements. Today, Labor Day is celebrated with parades, picnics, and various events, marking the end of summer and the significant role of workers in the country’s development.
